Revision history for StoryNotesFromTheEnd

NFTEOTW was my first publically released TTU novel, written
during ""NaNoWriMo"" 2004. It had some pacing problems and
the roommates could use some extra characterization, but it
still stands up pretty well years after its publication.

=====Stories: Notes From The End Of The World=====
//"The world is a weird place and that's just the way the world is. But I didn't invite it into my house and I don't think it's too much to ask for a little island of sanity. I just want a normal life back."//
//**Adult content:** Contains one explicit M/F sex scene and multiple discussions of sexual topics.//
John Stanton is an average, unambitious guy stumbling through classes at the University of Washington when EventTheFirstSighting hits TV screens. He tries to shrug it off and keep living his life of quiet comfort ... but when one of his roommates finds religion, one becomes a news junkie, one starts trying to learn magic, and one starts having relationship issues, it gets //personal.//
Now he's stuck in a land of magic and wonder, desperately seeking a return to his -- and his roommates' -- old life before somebody on the news does something stupid and it's lost forever. Armed with only a computerized journal and a burning desire for normalcy, John sets out to save his friends from themselves. Along the way, he has to face up to a world he never cared about, a love he never thought he'd find, a friend who resents his help, and a strange bum filling his head with metaphor. And ultimately, he'll have a decision to make with consequences far beyond his cozy, sheltered bedroom ...

~- EventTheFirstSighting
~- EventLosAngelesRiots
~- Therianthrope actress CharacterUlrikeHessen becomes an object of conversation (and a minor plot point) four days in.
~- John and his roommates live on the upper floors of a rented Victorian house. The house's description and location matches the Victorian that I and my sweetie/roommates lived in for several years when I was in Seattle (although the six of us were in the lower stories).
~- To the extent that John is seen as any sort of authorial stand-in, I've succeeded as a writer. Though there are a few subtle in-jokes (like his house location) that I drew from direct experience, he's completely a work of fiction with experiences and personality completely unlike mine. To take just a single example: The [[http://johnstanton.livejournal.com/2388.html nickel thing]]? Not a single word of truth to it. -- BaxilDragon
